The goal was to design and build a bilingual website for Les Caves GV, a newly established wine merchant. With limited initial branding—consisting only of a logo—the project required the creation of a cohesive digital identity. The site needed to host an initial catalogue of 50 wines, featuring an intuitive filtering system for wine colour and region and a seamless bilingual experience in both English and French.

My Approach

To bring this project to life, I focused on creating a visually appealing and highly functional website tailored to the client's needs. The process was divided into three key phases:

  1. Prototyping
    Using Adobe XD, I designed and shared prototypes of each page with the client to refine the aesthetic and user flow. The aim was to balance elegance and simplicity, crafting a digital presence that echoed the sophistication of the wine industry.

  2. Development
    After design approval, the site was built on WordPress. Collaborating with my brother, a front-end developer, we ensured that the site's structure was robust and adaptable, with a focus on responsive design and smooth performance across devices.

  3. Fine-Tuning and Launch
    Once the pages were assembled, I conducted a thorough review to address inconsistencies and enhance the user experience. Subtle animations and SEO optimisations were added to improve engagement and visibility. The bilingual functionality was carefully tested to provide a seamless experience for users in both languages.

Vision and Innovation

The vision for Les Caves GV was to establish a polished and inviting digital storefront that reflected the brand's dedication to quality. With wine being a sensory product, the challenge was to convey its richness through a screen. By integrating high-quality visuals and intuitive navigation, the website offers a luxurious yet approachable user experience.

Identifying Unique Challenges

One of the primary challenges was designing an effective filtering system that allowed users to explore the wine catalogue effortlessly. By integrating filters for colour and region, users can easily narrow down their preferences without feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, creating a cohesive bilingual experience required careful attention to layout and content structure, ensuring both languages felt equally natural.
